Clitunno – Markus Lüpertz

This monumental colour woodcut depicts Clitunno, the Umbrian river god, and embodies Markus Lüpertz’s artistic affinity for classical themes. The large-scale work dominates the reception area of the Grand Hotel with its powerful presence. The woodcut forms part of a significant series of prints and illustrates Lüpertz’s masterful exploration of classical motifs – a testament to artistic elegance and timeless beauty.

Salvador Dalí – La Divine Comédie

The wall-filling series of paintings in the Dalí Bar showcases Salvador Dalí’s artistic exploration of Dante Alighieri’s classic work. Between 1950 and 1952, Dalí created 100 watercolours – one for each of the 100 cantos of the *Commedia*. In 1960, these works were reproduced in colour using an elaborate woodblock printing process. A fascinating tribute to the life and work of an artist whose sophisticated spirit comes to life throughout the bar.

Der Krieger und das Ensemble – Markus Lüpertz

Three painted bronze sculptures by Markus Lüpertz have graced the former Cour d’Honneur of the Grand Hotel since 2000. ‘The Warrior’ – one of only three existing examples – depicts a mortally wounded figure wearing an ancient Corinthian helmet and carrying a buckled shield. The ensemble engages in a striking dialogue with the history of Bensberg and creates a thought-provoking contrast between heroism and the reality of war – art that invites reflection.
