Who hasn’t dreamed of a beautiful fairytale wedding in a real castle?

The special atmosphere of Schloss Bensberg makes guests feel right at home. Be it in the library, in the 385 m² baroque ballroom or in the Salon Zanetti with its impressive painted ceiling.

Impressing Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was probably no easy feat, but Schloss Bensberg succeeded in doing so. Goethe had travelled extensively throughout Italy and France in his life, so he had a good basis for comparison when he described Bensberg Castle as “unique” on account of its beauty and its location. And indeed, the location and the view of Cologne and the Rhineland continue to have a beguiling effect today. Just like the building itself: Johann Wilhelm II, Elector Palatine, who commissioned the magnificent building as a royal hunting lodge in 1703, was inspired by the splendour of the French Palace of Versailles

Some say it is a sight to behold forever – which would be fitting, as the castle today is a favourite location for couples to exchange their vows for eternity. Few rooms exemplify baroque opulence as much as the Salon Zanetti on the third floor, a 75 m² room with an impressive painted ceiling and large ornamental sculptures that enhance the paintings’ impact. The salon is an official branch of the Bergisch Gladbach registry office, and many couples have said “I do” here in the romantic setting. With 111 rooms, including 35 suites and a presidential suite, the Althoff Grandhotel Schloss Bensberg offers formidable accommodations not only for the bride and groom, but also for their guests.

Highest culinary standards are guaranteed: the Vendôme restaurant, led by executive chef Joachim Wissler, boasts two Michelin stars and five red toques in the Gault&Millau restaurant guide, while chef de cuisine Marcus Graun serves up modern interpretations of Italian cuisine at Trattoria Enoteca. The teams from both restaurants are also available for weddings. The modern Salvador Dalí Bar provides a perfect setting for memorable moments with friends and family. Before the celebration, or afterwards, guests can also relax with soothing wellness treatments in the spa area with the possibility of having themselves made up by beauty professionals for the event.

Above all, it is the people who make a wedding special – and the Althoff Grandhotel Schloss Bensberg works with first-class partners to make sure the day is a wonderful experience: from place cards and flowers to the choice of menus, from booking a photographer or videographer to organising the evening entertainment with band or DJ. Want to arrive at the castle in a carriage or historic car? The wedding planners are well connected and always have the right idea for whatever your wish may be. Because in the end, every wedding should be as Goethe once felt Schloss Bensberg was: unique.
