We have put together three itineraries that allow you to experience the very best the region has to offer – from tranquil mountain lakes to historic market towns and UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Alpine Lakes Touring Route
approx. 180 km | journey time approx. 3.5–4 hours (excluding stops) | total duration approx. 6–7 hours
This route takes you through one of the most wild and romantic lake landscapes in the Bavarian Alps – past crystal-clear mountain lakes, winding mountain passes and tranquil natural panoramas.
Starting from Lake Tegernsee, the route takes you through Kreuth and up over the Achen Pass – a winding climb offering magnificent views. The route leads into the idyllic setting of Lake Achen near Pertisau, where a coffee stop invites you to take a breather. The route continues via Vorderriß to the emerald-green Sylvensteinsee – one of Bavaria’s most beautiful Alpine landscapes – before a leisurely ride takes you through Lenggries back to Lake Tegernsee.
Lunch recommendation: Entners Wirtshaus am See, offering down-to-earth Tyrolean hospitality – or the stylish Entners Seelounge with its modern ambience and lake views.
Alpine winding roads

Winding mountain passes, wild and romantic natural scenery and pure driving pleasure – this route brings together the best of the Bavarian-Tyrolean Alpine landscape.
From Lake Tegernsee, the route takes you via Lake Schliersee onto the legendary Sudelfeld Pass road, one of the most beautiful driving routes in Bavaria. Passing the Tatzelwurm Waterfalls and through the picturesque Thiersee Valley in Tyrol, the route leads back to Lake Tegernsee via the panoramic Ursprung Pass.
Lunch recommendation: Thierseerhof for traditional Tyrolean cuisine, or Café Milchhäusl for a relaxing coffee break.
Alpine Cultural Experience
approx. 220–240 km | journey time approx. 4.5 hours (excluding stops) | total duration approx. 7–8 hours
This route combines Upper Bavaria’s most beautiful Alpine roads with cultural highlights – a journey that focuses equally on scenery, history and enjoyment.
From Lake Tegernsee, the route takes you via Bad Tölz and Lake Kochelsee up to the legendary Kesselbergstraße and down to the crystal-clear Lake Walchensee. The route continues to Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the exclusive Schloss Elmau – one of the most renowned retreats in the Alps. The tour concludes in charming Mittenwald with its historic old town atmosphere, before heading back to Lake Tegernsee via Lenggries.
Lunch recommendation: Schloss Elmau – an exclusive dining experience in a unique setting.

What is included in the booking?
The booking includes 250 kilometres’ free mileage and insurance with an excess of up to EUR 5,000. You will receive a personal briefing; furthermore, the handover and return take place at the entrance to the Althoff Grandhotel Schloss Bensberg. The vehicle must be handed over with a full tank of fuel or a fully charged battery; otherwise, the cost of refuelling or recharging, plus a service charge of 30 euros, will be invoiced.
When will the vehicle be available?
The vehicles are available to you during your stay, subject to availability. We recommend that you book before you arrive to ensure you get the model of your choice.
Who is allowed to use the vehicles?
The ‘Mercedes-Benz × Grandhotel Schloss Bensberg’ experience is available exclusively to guests staying at the Althoff Grandhotel Schloss Bensberg and is aimed at residents of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. A valid EU driving licence (Category B) held for at least two years is required.
Can I book a vehicle even if I’m not a guest?
No. This offer is exclusively for guests staying overnight at the Althoff Grandhotel Schloss Bensberg.
How many kilometres are included?
250 kilometres are included free of charge per journey. Please return the vehicle with a full tank of fuel.
How old do I need to be to book a vehicle?
The minimum age for using the vehicle is 25.

What booking periods are available?
There are various time slots available for you to choose from every day. Please note that bookings cannot be made for consecutive days.
Can I cancel the booking?
If you are unable to take your booked ride, please cancel in good time to give other guests the opportunity to have a test ride.
Which routes are permitted for these trips?
You may undertake journeys on all public roads in Germany (Bavaria), Austria (Tyrol, Salzburg) and Italy (South Tyrol) up to a daily distance of 250 kilometres.
